Summary Package 2 L1

Hurricane Katrina had the most devastating impact on Louisiana where it struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in August 2005, may rank among the costliest natural disasters in lost human lives and destroyed property in U.S. history. Aerial surveys show that Louisiana's barrier islands have sustained especially heavy losses from Katrina's scouring winds and waves. The Chandeleur Islands off the southeastern coast, scarcely exist today. Katrina also damaged the Louisiana’s wetlands, a huge swath of marshes that makes up 40 percent of the wetlands in the Louisiana supports both freshwater and saltwater marshes which have been completely wiped out by Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana officials estimate that two-thirds of Louisiana's oysters may have been destroyed. Louisiana is the number one oyster producer in the nation. The Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration Plan is also planning to launch projects to rebuild barrier islands and replant lost marsh grass.

Title: Write about a time when you lost something expensive, but gained a valuable lesson in return.

The bright LCD display of my watch disappeared, as I walked toward my table; trying to find my beloved timepiece which my father had given to me. What did I do to deserve this?
I looked at all the nooks and crannies in the classroom and found nothing. It was a rather fruitless attempt as I walked around the class, scanning the floor for any sign of it. A piece of metal glinted at me as I neared Javier’s table, a watch! I pounced on the oblong shape I picked it up; it was Melvin’s watch. As I put it on his table, I realized that it could have been stolen. The class doors were not locked during recess! Who was that slimy low-down piece of junk going around stealing other people’s watches, I wondered as I slunk back into my chair. “Hey! Where’s my watch!?” I heard Yi Xun burst out, his face redder than a tomato as he stood up. “Stolen?” I heard Kelsey suggest as he looked in his bag for his watch, a very expensive Timex watch, which cost him half his savings to buy.
I remembered that I had left my watch on the table before recess, leaving it nicely on the table, a perfect spot for a thief to steal.
“Never mind,” I heard Megan say, “just be more careful next time,” Eric said in a wise tone of a sage, I then resolved to get a cheaper watch to replace the old one.
“Be more careful next time, we must be vigilant in order to prevent our things from being stolen,” Mrs Phua our teacher said. I reminded myself not to leave any of my watches like that again.

An incident where I was caught in a storm

Q: An incident where I was caught in a storm

A dark shape was swallowing up the clear blue sky in huge greedy gulps. Soon, ominous black clouds covered the sky. Suddenly, our world turned white. There was an ear splitting crack. The boat rocked like a ragged doll being tossed by the angry waves.

I nervously moved the controls on the boat, steering it inland. I set the ship’s autopilot to the “ON” position as I stared intently at the Global Positioning System (GPS) next to the controls. It confirmed we were heading inland.

“Just a few more hours……” I trailed off. My teammate agreed.

Confessions of an aviophobic

Confessions of an Aviophobic

“Why? Why?” I asked myself silently, as I walked towards the immigration counter at Changi Airport, I turned back to the glass panel insistently separating me from my parents,

“No turning back now.” Edmund lamented as we both waved back to our parents, some parents who were starting to tear in their eyes.

I was one of the thirty odd students selected to go for the China school exchange program, one of the few who seemingly started regretting the moment intensely. “Bang!” The lady at the immigration counter stamped my passport waking me from my stupor. We proceeded to the boarding bay, after ten minutes we proceeded to board the huge Boeing 747 operated by SIA. On the aerobridge, the friendly SIA staff greeted us, making me feel more relaxed. After making my way to my seat, I left my bag in the storage cabin and sat down nervously.

I looked over to Edmund who was looking equally nervous; I looked at the seat belt and buckled it, “First time flying?” I asked Edmund, trying to ease the tension that hung over us.

“Yes……” he moaned over to me. As the plane began to take off, I gripped my seat tightly and with a prayer on my lips, the huge plane soared into the clear blue sky, almost free from the gravity of the Earth.

“Waaah!” I gripped the handles on the seat, my knuckles turning white, as we headed into a misty white cloud, we had flown directly into the turbulence, the plane dipped and rose, and we finally stopped descending. I decided to play a movie on the screen, after watching for awhile, I fell into a deep sleep.

After that incident I feared stepping into a plane again.
